Very Rare Antique Japanese 1939 Hainan Island Landing Commemoration Army Sake Cup
This is a very rare antique Japanese military sake cup, decorated on the sides with a carved picture of palm trees with birds, and the words "Hainan Island Landing Commemoration" and the soldier's name Minnagawa. The exterior is made of, I believe, coconut shell pieces, and the interior is a pewter insert. It's exceedingly rare to have cups commemorating any action in Hainan island - and the ones I've seen almost always use indigenous materials like coconut. The landings took place in 1939 as part of Japanese invasion, but it's one of the later areas that the Japanese conquered from the Chinese during WW2.
I also have an extra one that's somewhat damaged (the spaces on the shells have widened - probably shrinkage over time). Contact me if you're interested as I will provide a discount on that one.
Condition: Excellent - there's some surface damage on the coconut shells
Size: 2" x 2"
