Very Rare Antique Japanese 1940 Minelayer Tsugaru Launch Commemoration Glass Plate

Regular price $0

This is a very rare antique Japanese military ship launch commemorative glass plate, decorated with an image of a ship with clouds and water. The words on the top is the name Tsugaru, and on the sides "Imperial Year 2600" which translates to 1940, on the left "June 5th Launch" and underneath the ship "Yokosuka" where the launch took place. The back is blank except for the name of the maker of the dish, the Okamoto Glass company that is still in existence today as Okamoto Glass. Launch items are extremely rare - after all, they only happen once per ship. In this case, it's especially unique because this took place after WW2 had begun (although Japan was not yet at war with the US). The minelayer was launched in 1940 and was sunk in 1944 by the USS Darter. The ship was active in SE Asia in a number of campaigns.

Condition: Mint

Size: 6.5" tall from top to bottom. It comes with original rope that can allow you to hang it.
