Very Rare Antique Japanese Military 1900 Boxer Rebellion Damaged Chaoyang Gate Lacquer Sake Cups
This is a set of antique Japanese military sake cups, decorated each with a picture of a Chinese city gate that is heavily damaged, with a Japanese flag flying on top. This is the Chaoyang gate - the Japanese army (about 20,000 total) was tasked with entering the city through the Chaoyang gate on the east side of Beijing, and they had to demolish it on the way in. You can see a picture of the aftermath of the battle. The words on the back of each cup are "Meiji 33rd Year Northern Qing Expedition Participation Commemoration" "11th Infantry Regiment". The cups come with original wooden box, with a label under the lid for the shop that made them - located in Hiroshima, where the 11th infantry regiment was from.
