Very Rare Antique Japanese Military 1913 Battlecruiser Kongo Launch Commemoration Lacquer Sake Cups
This is a set of three Japanese military sake cups, each decorated with an anchor crossed with a chrysanthemum on water theme. The back of the cups each have the words "Warship Kongo Return to Country Commemoration" and "Taisho 2nd Year (1913)". This refers to Kongo's return voyage from the UK - where it was built - in other words her maiden voyage. This is in effect the same as the launch cups for other ships built natively, as the Kongo was the last capital ship for the IJN to be built outside of Japan. These items are extra rare because there was only one for each ship, and particularly worth celebrating for historically important ships like the Kongo.
Condition: Excellent - slight discoloration of the silver parts of the anchors
Size: 3.5", 4.25", 4.75" across
