Very Rare Antique Japanese Military Battleship Kongo Maiden Voyage Navy Sake Bottle

Regular price $0

This is an antique Japanese military sake bottle, decorated with a crane, a turtle, and a flag and anchor. The words on the bottle are "Warship Kongo" "Return Home Voyage Commemoration". This refers to Kongo's maiden voyage - returning to Japan from where it launched in the UK, where it was built. Kongo was the lead ship of its class of battlecruisers (later upgraded to battleship during the 1930s refit) and it was the final capital ship of the Imperial Japanese Navy to be built outside of Japan. Launch related items, such as this one, are very rare for named ships - after all it only ever happen once for each ship.

Condition: A bit of roughness around the mouth of the bottle, and light fading of the words

Size: 6" tall x 2" across
