Very Rare Antique Japanese Military Cavalry Soldier Kutani Army Sake Cup
This is an antique Japanese military sake cup or tea cup, decorated with a very nicely done, hand painted picture of a soldier resting against a tree with his horse in Meiji era uniform. On the back of the cup is another scene, this time with the soldier on his horse instead of sitting down. The words under the cup are "Cavalry" "Kutani" and the name Yamaguchi. The cup comes with original wooden box and also a yellow cloth. The words on the lid of the box is "Cup storage" and on the sides of the box is the name Hosokawa Toji, probably the soldier, and on the other side "Kaga Kutani-ware" "Cup". The bottom of the box has the words "Shimaaso township", the gifter's name Yamaguchi Jakujiro, "Cavalry discharge gift".
Condition: Mint. The box is also in near mint condition.
