This is a very rare Japanese navy sake cup, decorated with a naval marine helmet, distinguishable by the anchor instead of the star, an anchor, and a flag. The words are "Shanghai Incident Victorious Return Commemoration". This is to commemorate the brief action in Shanghai in 1932 when Japan landed a force in Shanghai and fought a brief conflict with China. The Japanese marines was a very small force and cups related to it are quite rare. The soldier's name Ito is on the back. The exterior of the cup is decorated with an embossed cherry blossom pattern.
