Very Rare Antique Japanese Military "Nell" Over Waves Airmen Lacquer Bento Box
This is a very rare antique Japanese military bento box. The lacquered box is decorated on the cover with two Mitsubishi G3M "Nell" bombers flying over some waves. The Nell was a navy bomber used from 1935 onwards until the end of WW2. The box is otherwise undecorated. It is made of thick lacquered wood - much thicker than the usual stuff you see on trays and cups, and is obviously meant to hold something more substantial. It's about the right size for a bento box, for a bed of rice with some other food there so the crew can eat, or that's the idea at least.
Condition: The corners of the lid and the base box are worn down a bit, showing clear signs of use. Some minor surface wear. No cracks.
Size: Top of lid (the largest size) is 6"x4.5"
