Very Rare Antique Japanese Military Pre-1911 Ironclad Fuso Navy Sake Cup

Regular price $0

This is an antique Japanese military sake cup, decorated with a pair of flags and the words "Warship Fuso Qing Patrol Commemoration" and the sailor's name Shigeizumi. The ship named here is the Ironclad Fuso - one of Japan's first western style warship that was capable of fighting other navies, ordered in the 1870s and used during the Sino Japanese war of 1895. The reference to "Qing" in the cup means this cannot be the later Fuso of WW2 fame. It's a rare piece of Japanese naval history as cups for ships this early is quite rare.

Condition: Excellent - some fading of the gold

Size: 3" across
