Very Rare Antique Japanese Navy 1935 Haruna Electrician Award Pewter Sake Cup Set
This is a set of three antique Japanese military sake cups, decorated beautifully with a profile of the battleship Haruna, and on the back has the words "Showa 10th Year (1935) 1st Fleet Battleship Haruna" "Electrician Department Skills Competition Winner Commemoration". This is a cup given to someone among the electricians on the ship during a competition of skills. Traditionally every year the ships will have a shipwide competition in different areas like gunnery, electrician, navigation. Sometimes cups were given out for these winners, like this really nice set. The famous Japanese admiral Ozawa Jisaburo was captain of Haruna in 1935 from October onwards for about a year as his final ship command before he got promoted to rear admiral in late 1936. The cup is made of pewter. The maker's mark in the base is "Satsuma Hoshiyama-do".
