Very Rare Antique Japanese WW1 1916 Cruiser Akashi SE Asia Patrol Lacquer Sake Cups
This is a set of 3 antique Japanese military sake cups, decorated each with a naval insignia of anchor and cherry blossom. The words on the back of each of the cups are "Warship Akashi SE Asia Patrol Commemoration". This is in reference to the WW1 participation of the cruiser Akashi in defense of the Malacca straits. It was based in Singapore for almost a year while doing so. The ship was a Russo Japanese era cruiser that served until around 1930. I previously thought this was a reference to the repair ship Aakashi but I think that was less likely - still a very fine piece of naval history.
Condition: The two larger cups are in excellent condition with minor blemishes. The smallest cup has a chip of the paint on the back of the cup - please see pictures
