Very Rare Antique Sino Japanese War 1895 Siege of Weihaiwei Dish
This is a very rare antique Japanese military commemorative dish, decorated with a picture of Japanese sailors in the foreground attacking and celebrating the sinking of enemy ships, and the ship sinking in the distance is Pingyuan (as noted by the flag). Pingyuan was an ironclad of the Chinese Beiyang Fleet that was stationed in Weihaiwei during the siege after the defeat at the Battle of Yalu River, and was captured after the Japanese took the city. The line on the top right is "Our navy's torpedo boats sank enemy ships" - this attack by the torpedo boats on anchored capital ships in the harbor was made possible after the Japanese cleared the obstacles laid down by the Chinese to protect the harbor.
