Very Rare Japanese Battleship Nagato 1929 Officer Gunnery Competition Award Pewter Navy Sake Cup
This is a very rare antique Japanese navy sake cup, made with pewter and decorated on the front with an anchor and the word "award". On the exterior are the words "Showa 4th Year (1929) Warship Nagato Winner of Officer Gunnery Competition". Inside the base is the name of the maker, a maker named Takayama from Kagoshima. This is a cup awarded for a ship-wide competition, probably, for the year 1929, for gunnery practice among officers. At that time if I'm not mistaken Nagato was serving as the flagship of the Combined Fleet. Cups with named ships are rare, especially coming from something like the Nagato, which was the literal representation of the IJN in the minds of the ordinary Japanese.
Condition: Excellent - because the metal is soft there are a few spots around the rim where there's a little indentation.
